Designing a nursery is always such a lovely experience as it’s a space where not only us designers can be a little more creative, but also a space where so many precious memories will be made. Last summer was mostly spent designing a nursery for one of our previous clients and we couldn’t be more in love with the outcome. Along with creating an adaptable space that grows with their new baby boy, the focus of this design was to ensure a calming environment that felt playful but not too childlike as well as keeping with the luxurious feel that runs throughout the rest of the house.
Our first port-of-call for luxurious, high quality nursery furniture is family-run business Adorable Tots. Since we wanted to balance a contemporary design with classic features, we opted for their beautiful ‘Karisma’ furniture range in a rustic, worn finish. We added touches of French-inspired detailing to the furniture drawings to hint toward the more classic feel as well as designing a bespoke canopy to house the soft drapes that hang above the crib. One of our favourite and most practical features though - the crib has a 4 stage convertible system which will see the family through from the baby’s birth, right up to his teenage years!
It’s important that a nursery is well thought out in terms of both practicality and longevity. We followed a bright, neutral colour scheme with subtle and changeable touches of blue, opted for a super soft, boucle fabric on the armchairs for night-time feeds and included nature-inspired textures and accessories to give the space an element of calm.
